Margaret Calkin James (1895 – 1985) was a prolific printer, designer, calligrapher and painter. Alan Powers writes that her pattern papers have ‘a quality that stands on its own’, ‘in company with designs by some of her greatest contemporaries.’ (Foreword to At the Sign of the Rainbow. Margaret Calkin James by Betty Miles 2005)

Judd Street Gallery papers are published by artist and art historian Alan Powers. While many of the patterns are by artists who had Curwen Press connections, these designs were not ever produced as papers by Curwen. Most of the Judd Street Gallery papers are happily still in print and you can buy them from JuddStreetPaper on Etsy.
