SCRAPBOOK 34 X 27 - VICTORIA HALL PASTE PAPER (ARCHES)
Scrap book album, bound with spacers at the spine and intended for items to be glued on both sides of the pages. 60 leaves (120 sides).
Pages are 160 gsm cartridge, so are also suitable for drawing or other artwork.
This book is suitable for all sorts of paper ephemera, such as news cuttings, tickets, leaflets, letters & envelopes etc. You could put photographs in there, but I would advise an album with heavier weight pages if you are mainly wanting to store photos.
The book is hand sewn and bound using traditional skills, and is constructed so as to be very robust. The pages are sewn with linen tape sewing supports and the spine is lined with linen cloth, and bound using an Oxford hollow, all of which give it extra strength (though they are out of sight!) which is needed for a large book of this size.
Large sewn albums have completely disappeared from conventional retail outlets since the awkwardness of their construction makes them costly to produce. They are a wonderful expression of the bookbinder's craft and are designed to be a sturdy tome that will give pleasure over many years of use.
The covers are a hand painted paste paper (blue arches) by Victoria Hall. Victoria has an extensive knowledge of historical paper decoration and specialises in highly-skilled fine antiquarian and period style marbling. She has also studied the technique of paste papers, a method which goes back at least to the Eighteenth Century.
